comic book stash #54

last week's books from first to worst...

1 - batman #1
2 - ultimate x-men #1
3 - nightwing #1
4 - fear itself: uncanny x-force #3
5 - x-men: schism #4
6 - teenage mutant ninja turtles #2
7 - star trek #1
8 - wonder woman #1
9 - uncanny x-men #543
10 - red wing #1
11 - catwoman #1

scott snyder's batman was fantastic. ultimate x-men was an interesting new take on the x-men. there's not much separating spots 3 through 10, all were good reads. catwoman however was an utter disaster. yikes.

here's a look at today's new stack of books...

aquaman #1 - COVER OF THE WEEK! other than snyder's batman and swamp thing, this is the book i was most excited about out of DC's new 52. i'm loving the bad-ass sea creatures featured on the cover. awesome.

batman: the dark knight #1 - before DC's reboot this book was one of best drawn comics every month but also one of the worst written. here's hoping they fixed that problem with this new #1.

the flash #1

the savage hawkman #1

superman #1

the mighty thor #6 - another great cover for this series. one of my favorite books each and every month.

amazing spider-man #670 - this cover is great just for the fact that we get to see JJJ experience his worst nightmare ever. love it.

wolverine #16

x-men #18

deadpool #43 - i hate everything about this cover except for the little stuffed deadpool she has in her arms. that actually looks pretty awesome. other than that, yuck.

kick-ass 2 #4

MUTEMATH photos

here are my pictures from the MUTEMATH show at new brookland tavern, 9.9.2011. one of the best bands i have ever had the privilege of seeing in person. a great show at a great venue.

here are a few shots and you can check out the rest here.

this last picture was just christina and i playing around, but it ended up being pretty awesome. no editing here, this is actually how the photo came out.

comic book stash #53

a little late with this week's comics post. here's what i thought of last week's books...

1 - uncanny x-force #15
2 - baltimore: the curse bells #2
3 - batgirl #1
4 - suicide squad #1
5 - batman and robin #1
6 - fear itself #6
7 - green lantern #1
8 - wolverine: debt of death
9 - severed #2
10 - amazing spider-man #669 (spider-island part 3)
11 - the infinite #2
12 - starborn #10
13 - deathstroke #1
14 - demon knights #1

x-force... awesome as always. baltimore... better than ever. batgirl... surprisingly strong. 4-12... good, not great. deathstroke and demon knights were not for me.

this week brings home another glorious stack of reading...

teenage mutant ninja turtles #2 - COVER OF THE WEEK! the issue 1 cover of this new ongoing series only featured one turtle at a time, so it's great to see the entire team in action on this one, complete with master splinter!

batman #1 - scott snyder begins what i hope will be a very, very, very long run on the new batman series. great art by greg capullo. this is an amazing creative team.

nightwing #1 - dick grayson returns as nightwing after a short run as the caped crusader. excited about this new book.

catwoman #1

wonder woman #1

fear itself: uncanny x-force #3 - great cover.

uncanny x-men #543 - is it colosnaut or juggerlossus? i like juggerlossus.

x-men: schism #4

ultimate x-men #1

red wing #3

star trek #1

and after a strong recommendation and a pretty generous discount from my local comic book dealer, i picked up the first TPB of 100 bullets...

comic book stash #52

last weeks comics...

1 - detective comics #1
2 - swamp thing #1
3 - x-men #17
4 - red skull incarnate #3
5 - wolverine #15
6 - green arrow #1
7 - action comics #1

the new DC universe got off to a 2 for 4 start in the first full week of new books. detective and swamp thing were definitely winners but action comics and green arrow didn't really do anything for me. x-men 17 was a surprisingly fun read. red skull dropped off a little bit this issue but still remains a high quality book. wolverine was decent.

ginormous stack this week. whoa. it's gonna take me awhile to get through these...

uncanny x-force #15 - COVER OF THE WEEK! one of my favorite x-force covers since the start of the series. love the colors and the action.

fear itself #6 - i still really like the layout of these covers with the title banner in the middle and the two separate images on the top and bottom. they continue to be a refreshing departure from the standard typical comic cover spread.

amazing spider-man #669 (spider-island part 3)

wolverine: debt of death (one shot) - this one dropped last week and after reading all of the good reviews, i decided to pick it up.

here are this week's pick-ups from the new DCU 52...

suicide squad #1 - love this cover.

batman and robin #1 - i expect big things from this comic.

batgirl #1 - another well-reviewed book from last week that i decided to pick-up this week.

demon knights #1

deathstroke #1

green lantern #1

and here is the best of the rest...

starborn #10

the infinite #2

severed #2

and finally,
baltimore: the curse bells #2

wow what a week!

comic book stash #51

here's how last week's books stacked up...

1 - uncanny x-force #14
2 - the mighty thor #5
3 - amazing spider-man #668 (spider-island part two)
4 - the vault #2
5 - justice league #1
6 - flashpoint #5
7 - gambit - from the marvel vault
8 - haunt #17

uncanny x-force reigns supreme. no competition. even the very excellent mighty thor #5 was no match. spider-island continues to be a very fun and entertaing read. the vault was a lot of fun as well. justice league got off to a decent start. the last few pages of flashpoint were outstanding but the book as a whole was just ok. haunt was a tad disappointing.

the first week of september brings a nice little stack of books...

red skull incarnate #3 - COVER OF THE WEEK! three issues, three COTW.

wolverine #15 - logan returns to the canadian wilderness.

x-men #17 - a unique cover from the point of view of a dinosaur's mouth. pretty sure that's never been done before.

and the first full week of the new DC 52 begins...

detective comics #1 - a very creepy cover.

swamp thing #1 - scott snyder makes this book required reading.

green arrow #1

action comics #1 - i think this cover is dumb. superman looks stupid wearing a t-shirt with jeans and a cape. either go jeans and a t-shirt or go full costume with the tights and a cape. this crossover just looks silly.
but hey it's just a cover.
