the following list is full of things that make me crazy excited for 2011!
i just can't wait for this awesome stuff!
in no particular order...
1 - anberlin / circa survive show - 1.15.2011
this first one i won't have to wait long for as this awesome tour makes a stop at amos southend in charlotte two weeks from now. both these bands had an amazing 2010, each releasing fantastic albums you may or may not see later on my best of music list (you will see them). simply put, this show is going to rock!
2 - thor
marvel comics is poised to have a big year at the movies with the release of the long awaited thor and captain america movies. we can't speak for captain america yet but judging by the above trailer, thor sure looks like it's going to deliver! and i'm even more excited for this one after seeing the dreadful green lantern trailer. yuck.
3 - batman: europa
the first issue of this comic book mini-series event has already been delayed once, but it will end up in our hands eventually and there's no doubt about the awesomeness it will bring. this story finds batman teaming up with his arch-enemy, the joker, as they travel the world looking for the cure of a deadly virus. and look at that breath taking cover by the masterful jim lee! (no relation to the frequently talked about jae lee)
4 - baseball season - gamecocks and red sox
you can't have a much better 2010 then the university of south carolina baseball team had, bringing home USC's first ever national championship in a major sport. here's hoping 2011 is just as good for the gamecocks, as they fight to defend their title. go cocks!
the 2010 season wasn't as kind to the boston red sox but the off-season has certainly been exciting. by picking up a couple of game-changing players in adrian gonzalez and carl crawford, 2011 looks like it might be the year the sox bring the world series trophy back home to the green monster! i can't wait for opening day!
5 - thrice - new album
the time has come for my favorite band to release another album, and i couldn't be more excited. definitely my most anticipated music release of the year. the tunes should be out by the summer and if it's even half as good as their 2009 release beggars, then it will definitely be at the top of my best of 2011 list a year from now.
6 - breaking bad - season 4
the best show on tv. no question. season 3 concluded with a bang (literally) this past june, and all of walter white's loyal following have been patiently waiting for season 4 to roll around. unfortunately amc thought it was a good idea to make us wait an entire year, so new episodes won't debut until later this july. but it will all be worth it to see what shocking events show creator vince gilligan has in store for us 6 months from now.
7 - batman, hellboy, and watchmen mez-itz toys
so if you haven't figured it out by now, i like to collect a thing or two. along with vinyl and comics, i also have a nice little collection of toys, and coming out sooner or later this year are a couple of awesome new mez-itz figurines, pictured above. i can't wait to set these up by all the others that grace my shelves.
8 - cowboys and aliens
cowboys versus aliens. i can't think of a better combination! this sci-fi western comes from jon favreau, the brains behind the highly successful iron man movies, and is sure to be another blockbuster for the director. a star studded cast and this awesome trailer have me giddy with excitement!
9 - polar bear club - new album
my second most anticipated album of 2011 comes from one of my new favorite bands, polar bear club. their 2009 release, chasing hamburg, received stellar reviews and was a fan favorite. the band's following continues to grow at a rapid pace, and their upcoming third full-length should push them even higher. this band is headed for great, great things.
10 - fringe
in a flash of stupidity, fox tv had the bright idea of moving this brilliantly crafted hour of entertainment to friday nights, the place where tv shows go to die. and it's all because of the decaying american idol. the third season has been great so far and i'm sure it will continue to be mind blowing. here's hoping the ratings stay high and the series gets picked up for a much deserved fourth season. and who knows, maybe it could get moved to a new night (perhaps 24's old time slot after house on mondays). only time will tell what 2011 has in store for the fringe universe.
